Powder coating is a completely dry finishing process used on a wide range of materials and products.
Finely ground particles of epoxy polyester pigmented resin are electrostatically charged and applied to the substrate to be coated. The substrate is earthed allowing the positively charged particles to stick and ‘fusion bond’ this takes place in the oven and is called curing.
Powder coating benefits include improved appearance, exceptional toughness and durability, scratch resistance and long lasting.
There is a vast range of colours and textures that can be applied. Properties of powder coatings include resistance to Ultra Violet rays, enhanced corrosion protection and is aesthetically pleasing.
The powder coating process is environmentally friendly, unlike solvent based paints, no VOC’s are released (Volatile Organic Compounds).
The powder is not bullet-proof, but it is more durable than its liquid counterpart. In a nutshell, it takes a lot more energy to put powder on and it is more durable than liquid coating, which is air dried, no oven – “easy on, easy off”.
